EL SHADDAI- CHILD RESCUE
e Waters of the Arabian Sea and with Shady Palms swaying in the breeze , goa’s seemingly relaxed lifestyle and white sandy beaches has always made it an alluring and Ideal introduction to India, being one of its most visited tourist destinations. The Tourism is a blessing, but , what we do not see behind the façade is that poverty stricken families from poorer states of India migrate here in order to find better living conditions. There are many runaway children who end up as child labourers, beggars or rag pickers near the beach sites, market places and juveniles in conflict with Law. The poor families end up staying in slums, parents find daily wages labour job while their children roam aimlessly at the construction site or on the road. These children face various kinds of child abuse & malnutrition. The parents of these children are uneducated and they do not understand the importance of sending a child to school. Secondly most of these street, slum children don’t have their birth certificates or any documents of their identity thus making it even more difficult for the children to get into a local school.

Feeding a tribal settlement
(£10) fed a meal of khichdi (dal + rice) to 25-30 people in a tribal settlement in Mulshi in September 2014. As you can see from the photos they live in a very simple place and many of them had torn clothes. We reached out to one such small settlement but there are many others in this area and in all the states of India.Set off from Limehouse Basin after being kitted up and shown the ropes by the experienced instructors at Moo Canoes. Once everyone is afloat, the whole herd of cowprint-kayaks will paddle out of Limehouse Basin, up through the oldest stretch of canal in London and past the Olympic Stadium, landing outside Crate Brewery in Hackney Wick.
Mehfil Night June 2016
er evening in June and it was time for OKA ladies' music evening, hosted by Rupa Samnai and Ritu Soni.70 tickets were released which sold out very quickly encouraging the organisers to release more. As such, Indigo was full to capacity with almost 100 music loving ladies looking to sing and dance the night away while raising much needed funds for the less fortunate of our world. The evening started with cocktails and appetisers with a talented live singer crooning evergreen Bollywood songs. Each table had a specially designed song request card and there were spontaneous moments of cheering and enthusiastic sing a longs when someone's request was performed. There was an opportunity to browse elegant and fashionable jewellery and shawls.Dinner was served with one lady quipping "the dal is quite chilly, all the better to spice up our dancing later!"And so the singers turned up the tempo and the dance floor was full with delighted enthusiastic women. There was even that elusive factor which marks a truly successful evening of music....dancing on the table. All fun and laughter aside, OKA raised nearly £2000 for the deprived across the world. As Rupa, a committee member said in her speech - "Unlike other larger charities, it is with pride and integrity OKA can say that, to date, 100% of money donated has gone towards alleviating suffering with no wasteful costs."Thank you all who gave their support and embraced OKA'sethos of living and giving.

ect made a Big Change At charity: water, we know that building a water project is the easy part. Keeping clean water flowing over time, however, is a complex business that requires money, training and innovative thinking. It's something we've always been committed to.In some cases, up to 30% of the cost of a charity: water project goes into training and educating the community about how to take care of the well after we're gone. At first, our field partners start with ownership27 % impact in the Maui regionWe believe if the community feels a strong sense of ownership, they'll see their well as a critical asset to everyone and take good care of it collectively. Another important piece is the formation of a Water Committee. A 6-8 person team is selected from the village (often it's at least half women) and trained to make minor repairs. Often, our partners will leave spare parts for the village in case the well breaks -- because sooner or later, something always breaks. If the Water Committee is in place and active, that will keep water flowing most of the time. But sometimes a problem arises that's too big for even the best Water Committee members to tackle. Communities could wait months for repairs while they go back to drinking dirty water.Just think of your car. If you get a flat tire, you might fix it yourself. If you need an oil change, you might know the drill. But if your engine starts smoking, it's time to call the mechanic. It's the same with wells. That's why we believe in funding maintenance programs and employing skilled mechanics to handle larger breakdowns.
